Rather than compromising the quality of coverage, we have chosen to slightly raise the premium, ensuring that you can continue to enjoy the same high-quality coverage you are accustomed to.

Waive

If you do not want the Student Health Insurance Plan, you must decline or opt-out of coverage by submitting a waiver. You may only opt-out of coverage during the following Waiver Periods:

Fall: 07/18/2024 - 09/30/2024

Spring: 11/18/2024 - 1/16/2025

Summer: 03/13/2025 - 05/26/2025

Waiver Requirements

To be eligible for a waiver, Rush University requires students to provide evidence of health insurance coverage equal to or better than the requirements below.

To qualify for a waiver, your health insurance plan must:

  • Be active as of 05/01/2025.
  • Be fully compliant with the provisions of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and all state and federal mandates. Click here to confirm if your plan is ACA compliant;
  • Provide unlimited access to doctors, specialists, hospitals, and other healthcare providers in the Chicago area.

**Please note, the following types of plans are not acceptable for a waiver. ** 

  1. Short-Term Limited Duration Plans
  2. Medical Cost-Sharing Plans
  3. Healthcare Sharing Ministry Plans
  4. Out-of-State HMO/EPO plans (unless proof is provided that there are no coverage limits in Chicago)
  5. Out-of-State Medicaid Plan
  6. Financial Assistance Plans
  7. Travel Plans
  8. Limited Benefit/Indemnity Plans

Waiver applications will be reviewed and verified as active with the insurance carrier.
